House Manager

Job Title: House Manager

Location: Birmingham

Reports to: Registered Manager / Area Manager

Hours: Full-time, including some evening/weekend flexibility and on-call duties

Job Purpose:

To manage and lead a supported living service that enables individuals with disabilities or support needs to live independently in their own homes. You will ensure high standards of care and compliance with regulatory requirements, manage a team of support staff, and deliver outcomes aligned with individual support plans and organisational values.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Service Management and Leadership

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the supported living house(s), ensuring a safe, supportive, and empowering environment.
  • Lead and supervise support staff, providing clear direction, support, and performance management.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive team culture based on respect, accountability, and continuous improvement.

2. Person-Centred Support Delivery

  • Ensure all individuals are supported in line with their person-centred support plans, goals, and preferences.
  • Champion independence, choice, and community inclusion for all service users.
  • Oversee care planning, reviews, and the implementation of outcomes-focused support.

3. Health, Safety, and Risk Management

  • Ensure all health and safety standards, including fire safety, infection control, and medication procedures, are maintained.
  • Review and update individual and environmental risk assessments regularly.
  • Respond to incidents and emergencies and participate in the on-call rota if required.

4. Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Ensure the service operates in compliance with CQC (or equivalent) regulations and local authority frameworks.
  • Maintain accurate records, including support documentation, audits, and incident reports.
  • Prepare for and participate in inspections, quality reviews, and internal audits.

5. Staff Recruitment, Training, and Development

  • Support recruitment, induction, and onboarding of new staff.
  • Organise training and ensure all staff maintain up-to-date knowledge and mandatory qualifications.
  • Conduct regular supervision, appraisals, and team meetings to support development and maintain performance.

6. Financial and Resource Management

  • Oversee petty cash, staff rotas, and budgetary controls related to the service.
  • Ensure effective rota planning and staffing levels that meet both care needs and funding requirements.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience in a supervisory or management role in a care or supported living setting.
  • Strong understanding of person-centred approaches, safeguarding, and risk management.
  • Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • NVQ Level 3 or 5 in Health and Social Care / Leadership and Management (or working towards).
  • Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, or mental health needs.
  • Knowledge of CQC regulations and supported living best practice.
  • Full UK driving licence (if required for service needs).
